Your online shop on your own domain

Every CG Shops shop gets an address name.cgshops.com. You can also connect your own domain to it, such as magazin.bg. That is included in the price.

Why is it worth it? Shoppers remember a short address of your own more easily, and trust it more. It looks good on your business card, on Instagram and on the parcel.

A domain is your website's name on the internet. You buy it from a company that sells domains, and you pay a small fee there. That company is called a registrar.

How it works

  1. You open the "Your domain" page. Its link is on the page where you pay for your plan.
  2. You type your domain, such as magazin.bg.
  3. You add one line in your domain's settings. You sign in to the website of the company you bought the domain from. You open the domain's settings (DNS) and add this line: www CNAME domains.cgshops.com. It looks technical, but it is just one copy and paste. If there is a line for www already, you delete it first. Do not worry: for SuperHosting, ICDSoft, Jump.bg and other providers we show you the exact steps.
  4. You wait for our email. We check the domain every few minutes and write to you when it works. Usually within an hour.
  5. Done. The secure connection (HTTPS, the padlock in the browser) turns on by itself. The old address leads to the new one.

Two ways, choose the easier one for you

  1. One line in your domain's settings. This is the way in the steps above. Your email stays as it is. The address without www, such as magazin.bg, needs one more setting. You set up forwarding to www.magazin.bg in your registrar's panel.
  2. You leave the domain's settings to us. In your registrar's panel you switch the domain's servers (the nameservers) to ours. We copy your email settings and show you the list. This way the address without www works too. The switch takes up to 24 hours. For a .bg domain the nameservers are changed at your registrar or at Register.BG.

Example: a jewellery shop

An invented example: "Srebarna Nishka" sells silver jewellery at srebarna-nishka.cgshops.com. The owner has the domain srebarnanishka.bg at Jump.bg. Her email is there, and she does not want to move it.

She takes the first way. She signs in to Jump.bg, adds the line for www and sets up forwarding from the address without www. About half an hour later she gets an email that www.srebarnanishka.bg works. The links she shared on Facebook with the old address lead to the new one.

What you get

  • A secure connection (HTTPS) by itself. You buy no certificate.
  • A check every few minutes, and an email when the domain works.
  • The old address name.cgshops.com leads to the new one, page by page, for good. Links you have already shared keep working.
  • Connecting at no extra cost.

Good to know

  • The domain must be registered in your name. You also need to sign in to your registrar's panel. That way only you decide what happens to it.
  • You choose the registrar yourself. You pay the domain's fee to them.
  • If the domain is not ready after 14 days, we stop waiting and email you. You can try again at any time.

For the technical person

  • The first way is one CNAME record: www CNAME domains.cgshops.com. An old www record is deleted.
  • The second way switches the domain's nameservers (NS) to ours. We carry over the email records.
  • Add the new domain to Google Search Console. Then use "Change of address" from the old one. That way Google learns sooner that the shop has moved.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to buy an SSL certificate?

No. The certificate is what gives the secure connection (HTTPS). It turns on by itself as soon as the domain works.

Will my email stop working?

No. With one line in the settings, your email is not touched. If you leave the domain's settings to us, we copy your email settings. So it keeps working.

How long does connecting a domain take?

With one line, usually within an hour. A nameserver switch takes up to 24 hours.

What happens to the old links to my shop?

The old address name.cgshops.com leads to the new one, page by page. Links on Facebook, in Google and in emails keep working.

Can I remove the domain later?

Yes, on the "Your domain" page. The shop goes back to its old address. If we managed your domain's settings (DNS), we keep your records for 30 more days.
