Cash on delivery for your online shop

Cash on delivery means the shopper pays the courier when the parcel arrives. Many people in Bulgaria buy online only this way. So it helps when your shop takes it too. In CG Shops it is built in: the waybill tells the courier what amount to collect for you.

How it works

1. You turn it on. In "Payment Setting", section "Cash On Delivery Payment", with one switch. If you said you take cash on delivery when your shop was built, it is already on. Nothing to do.
2. The customer orders. At checkout they choose cash on delivery. The order starts as unpaid.
3. You send the parcel. The shop makes the waybill with the courier and puts the order's total on it, to collect.
4. The customer pays on delivery. The courier sends you the amount, as your contract with it says.
5. You mark it paid. When the money arrives, you press "Capture Payment" on the order. So you always know which orders are paid. Or you tell the AI assistant: "Mark #1039 as paid."

Example: a honey shop

An invented example: "Medena Pita" sells honey from Troyan. A customer in Burgas orders two jars and chooses delivery to an Econt office with cash on delivery. The owner creates the shipment. The order's total is already on the waybill.

The customer pays the courier at the office. A few days later the money reaches the owner's account, under his contract with Econt. He opens the order and marks it paid.

• The order list shows which orders are not paid yet.

Good to know

• Cash on delivery is only for orders with a parcel. The reason is simple: the shopper pays the courier. An order of services or downloads alone cannot be paid this way. For those, turn on bank transfer or cards.
• With BOX NOW and Pigeon Express the amount is collected in euro only.
• The courier takes its own fee and pays out on its own schedule, as your contract says. So the money goes straight to you.
• The shop does not know by itself when the money has arrived. You mark it, with one press.
• If you cancel an order that was paid on delivery, you pay the money back yourself. The shop only records the refund.

Frequently asked questions

Does CG Shops charge a fee for cash on delivery?

No. You pay only €12 a month excluding VAT for the shop. The courier takes its own fee under your contract with it.

When do I get the cash on delivery money?

When the courier sends it, as your contract with it says. The money goes from the courier straight to you. CG Shops does not hold it.

Can I offer cash on delivery for services?

No. The shopper pays when the parcel is handed over, so cash on delivery is only for orders with a parcel. An order with a parcel and a service together can be paid this way.

Do I need a receipt for cash on delivery?

It depends on your company and on how you are paid. Ask your accountant. They know your case. We will explain the rules in a separate article.

How do I see which orders are waiting for money?

A cash on delivery order is unpaid until you mark it. So the order list shows at once which ones wait for money. You can also ask the AI assistant: "Which orders are not paid yet?"
